It’s easy to get caught up in the details of our lives.  The ins and outs of our lives can be stressful–but mouth care shouldn’t be! Here are three things to keep in mind as you go back to basics.

Brush: Make sure you use an ADA-approved toothbrush, which you replace every 3-4 months. It should have soft bristles to avoid irritating your gums and damaging your enamel. Brush for 2 minutes, twice a day, using gentle pressure and short strokes. Keep your toothbrush clean by rinsing it in plain water, then storing it upright in open air, away from other toothbrushes. This helps to avoid cross-contamination.

Floss: Flossing can be obnoxious, but it is a necessary part of your oral hygiene! If you are one of the many that struggle with conventional floss, you can try other interdental cleaners! Try a water-flosser, or floss for sensitive teeth. You could even use a dental pick specifically created for interdental cleaning. Eat Well: Make sure you have a nutritious diet, full of minerals, vitamins, and macro-nutrients that support mouth health. Some great foods to include are dairy products and other calcium-filled foods such as dark leafy greens and beans. Also include lots of fruits and vegetables, and lean protein. Drink plenty of water. This diet will help your whole mouth, from your teeth to your taste buds!
