What are dental crowns?
When tooth decay becomes severe, or if serious dental trauma occurs, Dr. Saigh may suggest a dental crown. A dental crown is a custom-made cap placed over a tooth up to the gum line in order to restore the tooth’s size, shape, and ability to function. It also provides protection. Dental crowns are most often used to:
- Repair moderate to severe tooth decay or damage
- Prevent a weakened tooth from falling apart
- Hold a broken or fractured tooth together
- Anchor a dental bridge
- Complete a dental implant
- Restore the natural beauty of your smile
We provide high-quality dental crowns to keep your smile healthy and strong for a lifetime.
How are dental crowns made?
At Saigh Family Dental, dental crowns can be made and placed in just two visits. During your first appointment, we will gently reshape your tooth in order to create a crown that will fit perfectly into your existing smile without looking too thick or bulky. We then send impressions of your teeth to a dental laboratory, where it generally takes about two weeks for your custom crown to be made. In the interim, we will fit you with a temporary crown if necessary. When your permanent crown is back at our office, our dentist will make sure it fits perfectly and then cement it into place.
